Length: One way- 4km to the pass. 12 km to Tangle falls
Time: 2-4 hours return to the pass. 4-6 hours (one way) to Tangle falls
Elevation gain: 400m to the pass
This is a great hike along a well established trail. It starts in a subalpine forest and gradually climbs to an alpine meadow with great views of Mt Athabasca, Mt Andromeda, Snow Dome and the glaciers that flow off these peaks. Be sure to take advantage of the Parks Canada red chairs conveniently located as you gain the ridge; a great place to rest and take in the views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers. There are many variations on this hike, the more adventurous can scramble up the exposed trail to summit Wilcox Peak or you can extend the hike all the way to Tangle Falls where the trail meets back up with the Icefields Parkway. (note: arrange to shuttle a vehicle from the falls back to the trailhead beforehand otherwise its a 24 km round-trip hike! You can also hike a short distance up the hill beside the highway to the Skywalk and catch a shuttle back to the Icefields Discovery centre)
The trailhead is located 2.5 km South of the Icefields Discovery Centre (toward Lake Louise). Take the turnoff to Wilcox Pass campground and parking is at the trailhead just as you exit the highway. There are not a lot of parking spaces here but you can park alongside the access road to the campground. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead
