Our Guides
Our guides come from across Canada as well as from New Zealand, both countries with a rich tradition of alpine guiding. Together they have many years of experience leading people across glaciers like the Athabasca, both in summer and winter. They are trained in advanced First Aid, and carry two way radios in case of any emergency.

All our guides are members of either the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides or the New Zealand Mountain Guides Association. Most of them are certified ski guides or assistant mountain guides. Our Kiwis (New Zealanders) are certified glacier guides, a classification specific to New Zealand.

Peter Lemieux, the  lead guide has been travelling the glacier daily throughout the summers since 1980. Talk about glacial... Peter worked with Parks Canada as a park interpreter prior to founding Athabasca Glacier Icewalks in 1985.

Many of our guides have also gone through courses in natural history interpretation, offered through the Mountain Parks Heritage Interpretation Association (MPHIA).
